Two for the Guinness Book

Terrence and Malini Ranasinghe, the husband and wife combination who acted in Prof. E. R. Sarachchandra’s famous drama ‘Sinhabahu’ in over 5,000 performances since production in 1961, have entered the Guinness Book of World Record.
The duo played the leading roles of Potheguru (Terrence) and Malini (Suppadevi) for 30 consecutive years/till 1990 when they retired.
They were undergraduates of the University of Peradeniya when they were selected by E. R. Sarachchandra to play the two roles.
Terrence was a second year-arts student and secretary of the University Sinhala Drama Circle while Malini was a fresher who entered the Science Faculty from Girls High School of Kandy.
Terrence and Malini performed in shows at various venues across the country while being undergraduates and later as teachers in schools. They played the same roles before and after marriage and even as parents of a son and a daughter.
Terrence also served stint in the Sri Lanka Army in the North.
The experiences and recollections are vast and interesting, Terrence and Malini said while relaxing in their peaceful home in Penideniya near Peradeniya.
